ADHD Coaching for Students of All Ages to Develop the Skills Necessary for Success

Help your child reach their full potential with coaching to improve their organizational skills, build independence, and boost responsibility.

Let Me Guess: Your child is…

  • Smart

  • Creative

  • Resourceful

but still can’t manage to get their homework in on time.

You’ve tried to help him or her. You’ve reminded. You’ve nagged. You’ve yelled.

But nothing works.

That’s because if your child lacks the fundamental skills necessary to make it happen. ADHD is a lack of skills – it has nothing to do with intelligence!

Kids work with athletic coaches all the time to improve their abilities. In ADHD Coaching we’ll be building the brain skills necessary for success both in and out of school.

1:1 ADHD Student Support

We’ll meet twice a week to build on your student’s strengths, set attainable goals, create systems to break large goals down into manageable action items, check for accountability, and assess what’s working and what needs to change.

How It Works

  • Step 1: Students and parents meet to set goals for ADHD Coaching, both academic and non-academic.

  • Step 2: In supportive and structured twice weekly meetings, students will work on:

    • Becoming organized, learning time management skills, and learning how to prioritize.
    • Developing and maintaining motivation, focus, and concentration
    • Gaining independence and self-advocacy skills
  • Step 3: Weekly accountability check-ins to monitor progress

  • Step 4: Monthly parent updates to keep you in the know but take you out of the driver’s seat.

What are Executive Function Skills?

  • Planning: The ability to develop a well thought out strategy before starting a task so you can complete tasks effectively the first time.
  • Organization: Having “a place for everything and everything in its place” actually works!
  • Task Initiation: Your child seems to be able to find 3 hours to play video games but can’t get motivated to take 5 minutes to do the dishes or walk the dog.
  • Time Management: Estimating how much time is needed to complete a task, prioritize the “must do’s” over the “want to’s”, and use time wisely.
  • Attention: Allows us to focus on a person or task for a period of time, ignore distractors, and refocus when needed
  • Metacognition: The ability to think about our thinking, to consider what’s going well and what needs work, and to adjust accordingly.
  • Working Memory: The ability to keep information in our heads as we use it and to recall as necessary.
  • Self Control: Learning how to “hit the pause button” to make positive choices when emotions run high, think through a situation, and make positive choices in the moment and for the future
  • Flexibility: The ability to “go with the flow”, coping with change, testing out new approaches, and learning to see situations from different perspectives
  • Perseverance: Working through challenges and roadblocks with grit and determination

FAQ:

How involved are parents in ADHD Coaching?2021-02-11T17:19:48+00:00

You’re always going to be involved in your child’s life and but, in this case, I’m going to ask you to give your child the gift of space. Parents of kids with ADHD are often enabling their children more than they realize (I’m guilty of it too!). By empowering them, you’re showing them that you trust them and feel confident that they are the capable person they want to be.

Why twice weekly meetings?2021-02-11T17:19:27+00:00

Because consistency is key for accountability. It also allows for course correction immediately, if necessary.

What is ADHD Coaching?2021-02-11T17:19:15+00:00

According to Jodi Sleeper-Triplett, ADHD Coaching pioneer (and my fabulous teacher!), an ADHD Coach “helps individuals to set goals, acknowledge strengths, accepts limitations, develop social skills, and create strategies that enable them to be more effective in managing their day-to-day lives. ADHD Coaches do this by establishing a pattern of frequent communication with clients to make sure they are focused and working steadily toward their goals.”

Who can benefit from 1:1 ADHD Student Support?2021-02-11T17:19:02+00:00

Students with an ADHD diagnosis, learning disabilities, or Executive Function deficits will definitely benefit from a coaching relationship. But even students without diagnoses can benefit from the structure and support that a coach can offer.
